Versatile junior could be big time

Louisville (Ky.) Male is home to one of the most electrifying players in the commonwealth for the class of 2007.
Athlete Doug Beaumont has the ability to line up at a number of different positions and is a threat to gain huge chunks of yardage every time he touches the ball. He is a Rivals.com 100 Juniors to Watch selection and is getting attention from several major college programs.

The 5-foot-9, 176-pounder played running back, wide receiver, cornerback, safety and linebacker and also returned punts and kickoffs for his team this season. He finished with 500 rushing yards and more than 700 receiving yards.
"I think my knowledge of the game is good," Beaumont said. "I've got good vision and I improve my speed a lot in between my sophomore and junior year. I worked with my track coach during the summer on form and we did a lot of sprints every day.
"My season went pretty well this year, but didn't end the way I wanted."
Beaumont first caught the eye of Rivals.com way back in June with a strong showing at the adidas Knoxville 7-on-7 tournament.
Right now, Beaumont is playing point guard on the Male basketball team. He shines on the hardwood and enjoys playing, but believes that his future lies in football.
"I am not getting as many big-time looks in basketball," he said. "But I like playing basketball. I enjoy it."
So far, several schools have shown interest.
"I've gotten some letters from Notre Dame, South Carolina and Kansas State (among others)," Beaumont said.
Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan, Penn State and Tennessee are just a few of the many other possibilities for the talented athlete.
"I really don't know where I would want to go to school," Beaumont said. "As long as the school shows me interest, I am interested in them.
"I really don't know where I want to go."
Beaumont plans to attend a NIKE camp this spring. Those are his only definite camp plans at this time.
