Versatile athlete holding one offer

It is a new season and a new school for Missouri City (Texas) Fort Bend Marshall athlete Victor Spikes. The multi-purpose athlete spent 2007 at Beaumont Central but has since transferred and has already adjusted to his new surroundings and his new role on the football field.
"Things are real good," Spikes said. "I like [Fort Bend Marshall] a lot. I like the program. My brother goes to (Fort Bend) Marshall. He's going to be a sophomore and he plays wide receiver with me. So I've met people through him."

At 6-foot-1, 200 pounds, Spikes has a lot to offer on the football field because of his versatility and his athleticism. He has proven that by excelling at a number of positions throughout his career including quarterback at Beaumont Central.
"Last year I played receiver and I was playing quarterback but I got injured so I didn't really get to play as much my junior year," he said. "This year I'll be a receiver slash safety and a punt returner and kick returner. I'm the type of person that doesn't like to come off the field. I love offense, but I like defense too. It's all equal. Football is football."
Despite his offensive prowess, safety is where most schools envision Spikes lining up. One school has already extended an offer.
"Utah is the only solid offer," he said. "I was really giving a lot of thought into it. I went to the Alabama camp. I was talking to Oklahoma State and Texas A&M. It was a slow process."
While Spikes is taking a hard look at his lone offer from the Utes, he has always dreamed of playing in the Big 12.
"I'm hoping that A&M, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech offer," he said. "Mostly I'm shooting for the Big 12. I've always wanted to play [in the Big 12], ever since I was a little kid. I'm going to take it day by day and I'm going to slow play it. I'm going to keep an open mind."
Adding to his size, Spikes has speed as well. His fastest time in the 100 meters is a 10.68 and though he is being recruited as a safety by many schools, he is dangerous with the ball in his hands.
"Teams like to utilize me for my speed," he said. "I'm really a speed guy. I'm a playmaker when I've got the ball in my hands. I really just make plays when I have the ball. I do what I do to score."
