Vaughn ridding himself of sleeper status

PEARLAND, Texas - To get his name out there, wide receiver/safety prospect Justan Vaughn of Pearland High School went to several camps during the summer months including a long trip to the Palo Alto NIKE Training Camp. With five offers in hand, it appears those trips have paid off.
The schools that have already sent offers to the 6-foot, 164-pound include Houston, Illinois, Northwestern, Utah, and UTEP. Though he's quick to say there are no favorites and he is wide open, he can't hide the smile that shows just how much fun he's having with all of this.

"Honestly, it's not what I expected at all," Vaughn said. "When I came out to play football on the varsity level last year, I just wanted to do that and take care of business. Then this all started happening and since then it's been nothing but good stuff."
Vaughn has not yet planned any official visits yet. He's going to wait until the end of the season before taking care of those.
"My father is out of town right now, but we've been talking about it and we'll start setting stuff up when he gets back," Vaughn said. "On Sept. 1, which was yesterday, people started calling from all the schools that offered and Rice. It was pretty interesting to hear what they had to say and I really got a chance to get questions answered."
One thing is clear and that is that this speedy two-way prospect is very open to all the schools that have offered.
"Those schools are good academic programs and I do want to play college football, but I know I need to take care of other things first," Vaughn said. "UTEP is a big, up-and-coming program, and Indiana, Illinois, and Northwestern have been big time and play in great conferences."
"There is a chance that several of those schools are ones I could end up going to."
