Varinas Thorpe claims three scholies

Recruiting is heating up for Richmond (Va.) Varina athlete Justin Thorpe. The 6-foot-2, 200-pounder has acquired three offers including one from the ACC.
"As of now I hold three offers from Eastern Michigan, Richmond and Duke," he said. "My first one was from Eastern Michigan and I got that in March.

"As far as the Duke offer, I got that one recently. I like the school, but I haven't visited there yet. Growing up watching their basketball team on TV, I know they have a rich tradition and it's a place I can also receive a good education."
Three schools have offered so far, but Thorpe believes a few more may come down the line.
"I believe Maryland, Virginia Tech and Virginia may offer," he said. "Basically all of them want me to come up to one day camps so they can see my frame more because on film I look much slimmer."
All three schools took notice of the Richmond prospect recently at the Penn State Nike Camp.
"I went to the Nike Camp and did well," he said. "I played a few positions, quarterback, running back and wide receiver. I think I showed the coaches there that I can play a variety of spots and am a versatile athlete. I've already heard that Syracuse, Maryland, Virginia Tech and Penn State liked the way I presented myself."
Other schools in the hunt for Thorpe include Northwestern, Boston College, Florida, Florida State and more. Is there a favorite for him at this time?
"I really like Virginia," he said. "Coach Mike Groh is a really cool guy that laughs and jokes with you. He's stopped by my school once a week and we text each other almost every day. He's one of my favorite coaches to get in touch with."
Even though Thorpe is favoring the Cavaliers, he has no intentions of making an early decision.
"I'm going to wait it out," he said. "I want to see everything and help out others on my team to get noticed."
As for a position, the Virginia prospect claims it doesn't matter.
"I'm hearing a lot of schools say I have the body for defense at safety or cornerback, but a couple say I could play slot receiver or even quarterback if I grow a bit more," he said. "Honestly, I'll play wherever they put me."
This summer Thorpe plans to attend a few camps, but has not scheduled anything at this time.
