Vandy pledge talks commitment

Rivals250 defender Kyle Gibson is the highest rated defensive back commit for the Commodores in the Rivals rankings era dating back to 2002.
However, this was no accident. Head coach James Franklin and his staff have made recruiting a major priority in Nashville.

The connection between Vanderbilt and the Seffner (Fla.) Armwood program dates back to 2009 when offensive lineman Justin Cabbagestalk signed with the 'Dores.
In 2011 it was Josh Grady followed by Kevin McCoy in 2012. A year ago, they were in the mix for five-star defensive back Leon McQuay. So the groundwork had been laid years ago allowing Franklin to cash in and reap the benefits. Again this was by design.
Gibson chose Vandy over Louisville, Miami, Notre Dame, and USF.
What was it about the Commodores that made him commit early?
"I loved the school and it was a great fit for me for football and off the field," replied Gibson. "SEC is pretty big for me. I also love the coaching staff. "
Now he has plans to turn his attention to his senior season and put recruiting behind him. Will he take official visits elsewhere this fall? Gibson said, "I'm only taking my official visit to Vandy."
Former Hurricane standouts Ed Reed and Ray Lewis were his favorite players growing up.
As a junior, he collected 74 tackles, four interceptions, four forced fumbles, and three sacks from the secondary.
