Klein running back Jared Hawkins nearly jumped through the phone when Vanderbilt offered him after New Year's. He committed the following day and took his official visit this past weekend to the SEC school.
Hawkins, who rushed for over 2,200 yards over the past two seasons, attended a summer camp at Vanderbilt this summer and favored the Commodores his entire senior season.
"It was a great trip this weekend and I got to hang out with two of the other running backs all weekend," he said. "The coaches and facilities are great and I will get a great education. I'm real happy and relieved. I'm just going to enjoy my senior season and just work out and get stronger. I'll probably go in July and get some classes under my belt."

Hawkins was offered by the Citadel and Liberty University, and was invited to go to Central Florida for an official visit. He has since cancelled.
"Vandy plays three running backs and I'm their third running back right now," he said. "I think I'll have a chance to play next season."
