Vanderbilt is still waiting to pick up its first commitment in the Class of 2017 and now the Commodores are without a commit in the 2018 class. The lone member of that class, 2018 Manchester (Ga.) Coffee County Central athlete Alontae Taylor backed off his commitment from the school on Thursday night via Twitter.

Taylor, who has picked up offers from schools like Tennessee, Louisville and Georgia Tech since originally committing to Vanderbilt back in October, said his decision was "not a de-commitment, but rather an opportunity to see what is right for me after graduation."

Over the years, the Commodores generally recruit slower than other SEC schools, so this year's slow start isn't abnormal. In 2016 at this time the Commodores had just one commitment, and in 2014 and 2015 the school had just two commitments when the calendar his mid-May.

Earlier in the day on Thursday, Vanderbilt head coach Derek Mason took to Twitter himself and made a subtle reference to the school's lack of commitments. It remains to be seen if Mason's words - or emojis - will help ease the concerns of the Commodores fan base.
