Vanderbilt lands three-star DT

Hoover (Ala.) Spain Park defensive tackle Darrius McMullin is beginning to pick up quite a bit of interest on the recruiting trail. The 6-foot-2 275-pounder has received offers from UCF, Ole Miss, Kentucky and others. However, early in June, McMullin made the decision that he didn't need to hear from anyone else and has decided to commit to Vanderbilt University.
"I committed to Vanderbilt," McMullin said. "I would say I committed like the first week of June. Vanderbilt offered me like May 21st."

Just last Thursday, McMullin was on the Vanderbilt campus meeting with the coaches and everything about his Vanderbilt experience has been positive.
"I met the coaches and they are very cool," he said. "I went and saw the campus. The campus was very nice and they say that there's a possibility of playing early, possibly as a freshman. I just know Vandy is a great school and you can get pretty much any job you want if you have that Vanderbilt degree."
McMullin was also impressed with the city of Nashville and that Vanderbilt campus itself.
"It was very nice," he said. "You wouldn't even think that it's in a big city like Nashville because it's so isolated."
The camp tour is over for the big run-stuffer after taking in the camps at Mississippi State and Auburn. Now, he is simply focused on working out with his team and preparing for the fall, where he does plan on possibly taking some visits.
"I'm still going to take a couple visits but I'm hard on Vandy," he said.
McMullin gives Vanderbilt it's fourth commitment of the 2009 class.
