Virginia scrimmage notes: Four-stars looking south?

The football season is finally here and high schoolers across the country are gearing up for their first games. Before playing under the lights on Friday night, each team plays a couple of scrimmages. Richmond (Va.) Highland Springs scrimmaged Stafford (Va.) North Stafford on Saturday in an effort to make sure each team is ready for their first regular season game.

Both teams feature some top college prospects. Here is the latest news in their recruitments.

Recruiting notes:

-Mekhi Benton has a top ten of Georgia, Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State, North Carolina, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Virginia and Virginia Tech; he says he doesn't have a leader.

-His best relationships are with coach Garett Tujague from Virginia, coach Shane Beamer at Georgia, coach Vance Vice from Virginia Tech, coach A.J. Blazek from Rutgers, coach Tim Drevno from Michigan and coach Ron Burton from Michigan State.

- No visits (official or unofficial) are plannedm but he might go to Virginia on August 20th for a cookout.

Performance: Becton knows how to use his size to his advantage and runs his feet well. Staying low is hard for a player as tall as he is, but he does a decent job of bending at his knees instead of his waist. Look for college coaches to help Becton improve his arm extension and keep defensive linemen off his chest.

Recruiting notes:

-Nana Asiedu took a lot of visits this offseason but seems to like Auburn and Clemson the most right now.

-Asiedu eceives mail from Clemson nearly every day.

-His best relationship with a college coach is with offensive line coach Herb Hand at Auburn.

-He has no additional visits planned right now.

Performance: Asiedu is incredibly athletic for his size and has no problem making key blocks down field. He is adding the necessary mass to his lean frame and is slowly getting stronger. Asiedu's first priority should be getting stronger in his upper body. That will help him keep defensive linemen from trying to beat him inside.

Recruiting notes:

-Devyn Ford has offers from about 20 schools so far with the most recent coming from Ohio State, a school he doesn't have much specific knowledge about.

-Ford took a number of visits this offseason, but trips to North Carolina and Clemson stood out because of their fun but competitive atmospheres.

-He has no leader or top group at this point.

-Ford has no visits planned but would like to see games at North Carolina, Clemson and Ohio State.

Performance: Ford is a special athlete that can make highlight reel plays any time he has the ball in his hands. He is a big-time threat as a receiver as well. Don't be surprised if Ford finishes this season with 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards. As a runner, Ford has the speed to out-pace defensive backs as well as the size and strength to run through many linebackers.
