VA junior scatback getting looks

At 5-foot-9 and 170 pounds, Alexandria (Va.) Mt. Vernon’s Mario Coleman would not be classified as a power back, but his 4.4 time in the 40-yard dash makes him a hot commodity to college recruiters. Coleman squats 450 pounds, bench presses 260 pounds, and claims a 34" vertical leap, also adding to his popularity.
“I have gotten a whole bunch of questionnaires,” Mario commented. “I have gotten 12 or 13 from UVA and a whole bunch from Boston College. Nebraska, Michigan, Marshall have also sent letters.” He grew up a Maryland fan and is also receiving attention from the Terps.

Coleman was selected second team all-district as a sophomore, but is unsure of his stats. He sprained his knee this year and missed two games, but ran for 210 yards in his last game.
“I do a lot,” Coleman described his playing style. “I change up to adjust to the other team. I can catch passes, but I am usually the speed back.
“I try to play like Barry Sanders. He can do it all. He can take out of the backfield, and can use power, speed, and is a good receiver. He has a whole lot of weapons.” Coleman also plays a little cornerback for the Mount Vernon defense.
Coleman has not attended any games this fall, but may go watch a Virginia home game. The Cavaliers recently sent him three complementary tickets to see the Georgia Tech game on Nov. 22. He was not able to attend any camps over the summer.
