UVA Gets Commitment

The UVA football team just added to their depth at one position by pulling in one of their top targets.
"I committed to Virginia on Monday," said Charlottesville, Va. defensive tackle Chris Johnson. "I called coach Musgrave and told him I was coming. Virginia was always my top choice and I decided that it was time to let them know."

Johnson, a 6-foot-6, 270-pounder who could play tackle or end at UVA, chose the Cavaliers over interest from Maryland, NC State, Virginia Tech and some others.
"I think coming from my area, we don't get a lot of attention or press so that's why I didn't have more offers," he said. "Maryland said they'd offer if I took a visit and NC State and Virginia Tech were very interested as well.
"I think everyone thought I was going to Virginia anyhow. My coach told me that the schools that called and swung by the school all said that. My dad went to UVA and it's five minutes away and they offered. Everyone kind of put it together."
Johnson has more than 10 sacks this season and his team is currently in the playoffs.
"We're doing really well," he said. "I'm hoping we can go deep."
Johnson felt comfortable with the coaches at Virginia, another reason he committed.
"Coach Musgrave, coach London, coach Groh," he said. "I got to feel really comfortable with all the coaches and players by going to as many home games as I did. It really made a difference for me."
