UTEP making waves in-state

Don’t look now but UTEP is ranked in the latest top 25 poll and it’s really starting to show up throughout the Lone Star State with many of the region’s top prospects. And one of the most overlooked prospects in Texas is feeling the love from the Miners.
Killeen, Texas, two-star cornerback Columbus Givens said he’s really into UTEP and is hoping to get a scholarship offer soon. He already has Texas Tech and SMU.

“I like UTEP,” said Givens, who has 12 touchdowns this season on offense at quarterback but could project as a corner in college. “I could play offense there. The like me as an athlete and think I could play on the offensive side and also play on the defensive side. I like that idea. I’d be really into that.”
Givens said he’s still open to other teams coming into the mix, but he’s leaning heavily toward staying in state. He’s also leaning heavily toward putting a whipping on rival Ellison High School.
“We’re undefeated in district,” Givens said. “We’ve already made state and Ellison is down, but we know that they’re going to give us their toughest game. We have to go out there and play hard.”
