UTEP lands CA Juco safety

A year ago, it looked like a done deal that Compton JC (Calif.) athlete Arthur Giddens was Nebraska bound. Giddens actually committed to the Huskers but was then told late that he needed to take and pass a Spanish class before enrolling. Giddens decided against it and a year later, he has now committed to UTEP.
“I just committed a week ago,” Giddens said. “ I’m taking my official visit this weekend with James (Finley). I just really like Coach Price a lot and UTEP has been on me pretty hard. Nebraska was recruiting me too but I just felt UTEP was a better fit for me. I’ll be graduating early and will be there for spring ball with two years to play two.”

Giddens was a high school quarterback at Manual Arts, Los Angeles and then enrolled at Compton J.C (Calif.) three years ago. He played quarterback and then moved to defensive back last season. His sophomore year, he has seven interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns and was recruited by the Miners as a cornerback.
“I sat out this past season because I didn’t want to waste another year,” Giddens said. “I still worked out with the team at Compton and tried to help out and coach up some of the defensive backs as much as I could. After not playing for a year, I can’t wait to get out there and get going in the Spring. UTEP is a good school and they had a good season this past year so I’m excited to be a part of that.”
