UTEP lands a wide receiver commit

Wide receiver Devin Patterson of Mesquite (Texas) North Mesquite has one scholarship offer from UTEP. However on Wednesday, Patterson decided that he didn't need any others as he decided to commit to the Miners.
"I committed to UTEP," Patterson said on Thursday. "I did it yesterday."

UTEP is a program that is attractive to wide receiver prospects due to the wide open offense and that is certainly one of the factors that played a role in Patterson's decision.
"I like the coaching staff a lot and I know that they throw the ball," he said. "Their quarterback has a lot of passing yards and stuff. I also know that I have a chance at starting as a freshman so that's pretty good."
Patterson made the call despite not yet visiting the El Paso program. However, he wanted to make sure that his opportunity to play for Mike Price's program didn't pass him by.
"They're only taking a certain amount of receivers so I just wanted to settle down on one school right now," he said.
While UTEP was Patterson's only offer, he was receiving significant interest from SMU and Kansas and was receiving additional attention from Wisconsin, Iowa State, Arizona State, Iowa and TCU.
"They're still trying to recruit me but I'm happy with my decision," he said.
