UTEP goes to California for TE

Continuing the tradition of finding gems inside the talent-rich state of California, the UTEP coaching staff made their way into the Golden State and found another sleeper that joined the 2006 class.
The newest member is the 6-foot-5, 245-pound tight end Elijah Goldtrap from Phelan (Calif.) Serrano and coach Ray Maholchic says that after a visit to El Paso, his impressive young player made his decision.

"Elijah committed to UTEP last week," Maholchic said. "He's the only one right now that we have committed from here. He didn't talk to much about it, but I think he liked it out there."
Maholchic said there was some competition for the talented player by way of another school.
"Colorado State was his first choice and he was leaning that way, but something happened there," Maholchic said. "I think they may have filled up or something, so he decided to check things out at UTEP. He liked it there and he committed."
"He's been a good player for us."
