Utah lineman off to strong start

September 1 is always a big date in recruiting circles. College coaches are allowed to contact '08 recruits by phone and can also officially offer '09 recruits via mail. One player who could be hearing from several colleges is Salt Lake City (Utah) Cottonwood lineman John Martinez.
Martinez, 6-4, 275 pounds is a member of the early Rivals 100 for 2009. He's a very talented offensive lineman and in the teams first two games, we've heard from various sources that the lineman has been by far, the top player on the field, including big time '08 linebacker Lynn Katoa.

Martinez picked up early offers from Oklahoma State, BYU, Oregon State and Utah. It appears several more could be coming soon.
"We've heard from a lot of schools who have said they want to offer John ASAP," Martinez' father Steve said. "Oklahoma, Kansas State and Louisville are just a few of the schools we've heard from in the last week and they have all mentioned offers.
"It's going to be exciting to see what kind of mail we get when September 1 rolls around here. Right now, John is just focusing on his team and hoping for as much team success as possible. I think that means more to him than individual success."
