Statistics: In his junior year, his school didn't keep any offensive line statistics, but he pulled a lot as a tackle to utilize his speed and quickness. As a defensive tackle he averaged five tackles per game. He also had 12 sacks, one fumble caused and one fumble recovered.
Honors: Speredon was named first team all-region and first team all-state by both the Salt Lake City Desert News and the Salt Lake City Tribune. He was the only junior in class 5A to receive first team all-state honors.
Strong Points: "On the offensive line, I'm a pretty good pass blocker. I can pass block anybody. I like hitting hard. I'm a good leader."
Favorite Schools: He has heard from Utah, BYU, Utah State, Oregon, USC, Michigan, Stanford, LSU, Penn State, Colorado, Washington, Arizona State, Nebraska, Iowa, Notre Dame and others.
He has offers from Utah and BYU. Utah is recruiting him the hardest.
Utah, Arizona State and BYU recently visited him at his school.
"I'll probably stay in state, but I want to leave my options open," Jason Speredon said. "I want take some trips to check things out."
When asked for a list of his current favorites, he named the following schools (listed in order of mention):
1. BYU - "My parents and I went to their spring practice. The coaches came right up and shook hands with me. They treated me really well. The players treated me really well too. They came up and shook hands. They took us on a tour and showed us the campus and the facilities. I like the atmosphere of the place."
2. Utah - "Coaches Gerke and McBride have treated me real well. Their weight room is good and it's a good school. The players have treated me well when I've been there. I know I will will be fine if I end up there."
3. Oregon - "I haven't ever been there, but I'd like to visit and see it. I'd like to go look around and see the state. I hear it's beautiful up there. It's lush and green and a good place for the weather. It's probably my dream visit. They're well known, they have a good football team and the college would be good educational place like BYU and Utah.
4. Stanford - "Because of the fact that education-wise, if you graduate from there you could get any job you want. Their education is second to none. Plus they have a good football team."
5. Michigan - "They have a good football team, it's a good school, the area is a nice place and they have good facilities."
Skinny: He plans to attend the Nike camp in Boulder on May 11th and also the Utah and BYU camps.
His priorities on his college choice are, "I want to talk to the schools to see what their plans are for me. Will they redshirt me after my mission and do they practice on Sunday? If they practice on Sunday, I wouldn't be interested in going there. I also want to check out their facilities, weight room and academics. I plan on graduating and getting a good job so I want to have a good degree. I want to see how the players treat me. I'd like to be treated like a decent person."
He plans to go on a Mormon mission while in college. "Yes, my being a LDS will be a factor, but I can go to church at any school I go to. However, I won't attend a school that practices on Sunday."
He plans to major in sports medicine, physical therapy or business.
He wrestles in the heavyweight class. As a sophomore he was 4th in state and as a junior he was 3rd.
