Utah fullback on the upswing

As the population of Utah increases it only stands to reason that there will be more football prospects. One player to keep your eyes on from the beehive state for the coming recruiting season is fullback Marcus Mailei (6-1, 230, 4.5) from Salt Lake City (Utah) Highland.
Mailei is really coming into his own as a football player and is beginning to hit stride.

“Marcus has put on 20 pounds since the end of the season and hasn’t lost a step,” Highland offensive coordinator Brody Benson said. “As a fullback he’s very shifty and agile, but when he has to Marcus will lower his shoulder and run over you.”
“From his fullback position,” Benson said. “Marcus is a devastating blocker.”
“Marcus destroys opponents on the edge,” Benson said. “They’re not expecting a fullback to come up and just stone them.”
Mailei is an outstanding all-around athlete. He could see some action on the defensive side of the ball in 2004.
Make no mistake however, Mailei will be Highland’s go to guy on offense as a fullback this coming fall and it will be as an offensive player that he earns his scholarship. He was selected all-state (HM) and first-team all-region for his performance in 2003.
Mailei has good strength, getting better, his bench is 295 and he squats 475.
Notre Dame has sent handwritten letters expressing their interest. Ivy League schools Columbia is also handwriting letters to Mailei.
Nebraska is also showing Mailei a lot of recruiting attention. BYU, Cal and Tennessee have also expressed an interest in Mailei.
Before the spring is over there should a lot more interest in this talented fullback who has his best days as a football player ahead of him.
