USF makes play on N.C. State pledge

You have to hand it to South Florida coach Jim Leavitt. The man can coach and he can recruit. How else would you explain it that he’s able to get a heralded recruit like LeRue Rumph in for an official visit, despite being committed to N.C. State.
“Coach Leavitt is a cool guy,” Rumph, a four-star safety that is 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, said. “He just reminds me a lot of the coaches that have coached me. I liked my visit this weekend a lot. It’s going to give me a lot to think about.”

But rest easy N.C. State fans, Rumph said he’s still committed and plans on checking out the campus this weekend.
“I’m hoping that I go up there and get blown away,” he said. “I hope it shows me why I committed in the first place.”
But if it doesn’t blow him away, Rumph said he will seriously consider USF and maybe also take a visit to Clemson.
”That’d be just in case,” he said.
