USF lands touted wide receiver
Darnell Salomon had options. Some off field controversy may have limited them. But, for a time, the Miami Central High School wide receiver was in demand. It's why his Monday commitment to USF is being seen as a coup.
The four-star wide receiver announced his commitment to USF via Twitter and elaborated when reached by phone by Rivals.com.
"It's a great school with great coaches," Salomon said. "I know a lot of the players that have gone there before me."
It wasn't the school's reputation alone that sold Salomon on the Bulls. His commitment was at least in part the product of a recent campus tour.
"When I went to go visit, it was a great feeling," Salomon said. "It was really nice, and just seemed like a good place for me."
This season, Salomon has been a key cog in a Miami Central team that is set to play in the Florida State semifinals. He's the No. 28-ranked wide receiver and the No. 139-ranked overall prospect in the class of 2016.
Salomon saw his recruitment slow a bit due to an off-field incident that saw the wide receiver accused of felony burglary during a recruiting trip to Georgia last July. As of now, he has been convicted of no wrongdoing.
I talked it over with my family and I am now committed to USF#Go Bulls 🐂— Darnell Salomon (@All_AmericanD7) November 30, 2015
WHAT'S NEXT?:Salomon is unlikely to make many other campus visits and will likely sign with the Bulls on Signing Day. Things could change, of course but he prospects as a rather solid commitment for the time being.
RIVALS' REACTION: This is obviously a major steal for USF. Salomon had major options for a reason but off-field issues hurt his recruitment. If there's a part of Salomon's game to question, it's his hands but he is explosive off the line and should be able to contribute from day one as a Bull.
