USC picks up Florida-based defensive end

Jacob Lichtenstein’s commitment to USC took place on Tuesday afternoon and came a bit out of the blue. There was no scheduled announcement and not an ounce of build up. The Florida-based defensive simply announced his verbal pledge with a tweet, and that was that.

Still, the commitment counted the same anyone else’s. Lichtenstein is now a USC commit and the three-star prospect is thrilled with his new title.

“It’s such great opportunity there for me,” Lichtenstein said. “ It’s the perfect mix of elite academics and athletics. It’s a complete family atmosphere among the team

Of course, there was more to his commitment than classrooms and football. Lichtenstein standing as a member of the Trojans 2017 class was the product of relationships. Despite the thousands of miles between USC’s campus and Lichtenstein’s family home, the Weston (Fla.) Cypress Bay High School senior feels close to the Trojan staff.

This, it seems, was not a knee-jerk commitment.

“I love that they took me in and really made me feel like family,” Lichtenstein said. “They really care about me as an overall person and want to see me progress as a man, not just a football player.”

Lichtenstein has already visited USC’s campus and says he has no plans to visit other schools. According to him, his only official visit will be to the school to which he is currently committed.

“My recruitment is shut down,” Lichtenstein said.
