USC moves back up Brown’s list

Three-star dual-threat quarterback / athlete Joe Joe Brown (6-foot-3, 190 pounds, 4.6-seconds 40-yard dash) from Cordele (Ga.) Crisp County was close to making his permanent intentions known to play his college days at NC State, but then he visited South Carolina. While the Gamecocks had slacked off in their recruitment, they are now back in full swing, and their efforts are paying off.
“South Carolina was a good overall trip,” Brown commented. “I enjoyed it. I had a good time.” He was hosted by Andy Boyd the first night, then Blake Mitchell the second night, and rated the visit a seven.

“Sitting and talking to Coach Holtz was really big. He was honest and straightforward, and I needed to hear that coming from them.”
While South Carolina had been high on Brown’s early list of favorites, the coach in charge of recruiting him was fired. In the mean time, Brown had serious discussions with NC State and thought that was where he wanted to go. USC is back on board now, and now Brown will have to make a big decision.
“I am still weighing things right now, but the trip over the weekend didn’t hurt. I will probably go to Wake Forest this weekend, because I like Coach Mullins. It is out of those three. I am still open minded.”
While many considered his strong interest in NC State as a commitment, he said that wasn’t the case.
“I was not committed, it was more of an understanding that if I looked somewhere else I would still have a scholarship,” Brown explained. “They told me to go ahead and take visits.”
With one more visit set, Brown hopes to make a decision after weighing all options.
“After my trips I pan to just sit back and let reality set in,” he said. “Then I will think things over and decide.”
