USC holds edge for Thompson

Shurod Thompson has said in recent weeks that Arizona State and USC are his two early favorites but it seems the Trojans have a slight edge in his recruitment.
The Pittsburg, Calif., four-star defensive back admitted as such at the Las Vegas Pylon 7v7 this past weekend and made it no secret that he has a lot of interest in USC at this point.

"The first time I went out there we just watched them practice," Thompson said.
"The second time I was there we did the whole tour and everything, talked to the coaches. They told me where they're going to use me at DB. I really like coach (Keith) Heyward and coach (Steve) Sarkisian."
Thompson, rated as the seventh-best prospect in the 2016 class, said his relationship with the USC coaches is one reason why that team has propelled to the top.
"I like their swag," Thompson said. "They're amped up and they love football. They love teaching young guys football."
Arizona State is right there as well for Thompson, No. 75 overall by Rivals.com. He has friends on the team already and he said that could play a big factor as his recruitment continues.
"I have close friends up there, D.J. Calhoun and Jalen Harvey, and they talk a lot about it," Thompson said. "They tell me they love it. It's a lot easier when you already have people there and they can tell you about it from a player's standpoint.
"It's comfortable. I get a lot of input from them that helps me with my decision."
The four-star prospect from Northern California said he doesn't plan to make a commitment until after his senior season. He still plans to play with four-star teammate Jordan Parker, also a defensive back.
