USC continues to lead on four-star safety

With mid-term junior college signing day right around the corner, El Dorado (Kan.) Butler County C.C. four-star safety Mike West knows he has to make a decision quickly. At this point, it looks like it’s a four or five team race to land his pledge.
“I’m still really high on South Carolina and I would probably put Memphis up there, too,” West, who is 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, said.

“I’m going to Memphis this weekend. A bunch of my teammates are going with me. It’s going to be me, Jonathan Wilhite, Brian Murph and our quarterback, Zac (Taylor). I’m then going to South Carolina on the 10th.”
At one point, West attempted to commit to the Gamecocks, but that was right when the coaching transition from Lou Holtz to Steve Spurrier took place. He said coach Cooper is the main coach recruiting him now for USC and he heard from him for the first time in a while this past Monday.
“He said they’re going to run the same style and scheme on defense,” he said. “I’d like to get back to home, so that might be a good option. I’m still wide open, though. I’m still talking to TCU, where I visited back on the 20th (of November) and KU and K-State are wanting me to take a mid-week visit next week.”
So only time will tell what will happen with West. But the good news is that time is running out and there will be a decision soon.
