USC commit makes a switch

The Oregon State Beavers continue their torrid recruiting streak this time landing one of the state’s best players in athlete prospect Lamar Herron (6-1, 190, 4.4) from Sacramento (Calif.) Natomas. Herron was long a USC commit but had a change of heart and now he is Oregon State bound.
“I made the change,” Herron said. “I made the change from USC to Oregon State.”

“I want to make an early impact,” Herron said. “I think I can do that at Oregon State.”
“At USC they have young guys at the safety position and they just won the national championship,” Herron said. “If I’m the coach I’m not going to change what has helped me win.”
“I know I’m going to have to compete for a position wherever I go,” Herron said. “I saw the depth chart at Oregon State and I have a chance to make an earlier impact with the Beavers.”
“I had a great trip at Oregon State and liked everything about the school,” Herron said. “I saw the campus, the football stadium and the facilities. I liked it there.”
“I talked to my councilor and Oregon State is very strong in my major,” Herron said. “I’m going to major in computer sciences.”
“Another reason I like Oregon State is I have family up there,” Herron said. “My older brother lives in Portland and Portland is only an hour away from Corvallis.”
“Oregon State also has a former high school teammate on the squad, Joe Rudolph,” Herron said. “They have also received pledges from other Sacramento kids (Alan Darlin and Keith Johnson) that will be in the same class as me.”
Herron racked up 130 tackles and had one pick in 2003.
Perhaps the most lethal statistic that Herron has is he knocked out five running backs this season for the game with bone crushing hits.
Great get for Oregon State.
