USC commit has five favorites

Tashon Smallwood has been committed to USC since late February but the Fresno (Calif.) Central East defensive tackle just released his top five, further questioning where he stands with the Trojans.
The 6-foot-1, 285-pound four-star recruit said he released a handful of favorites because that's where he plans to take his official visits this fall before making a final decision, which does not have a timetable yet.

USC, UCLA, Arizona State, Alabama and Miami made the cut for Smallwood, who has made it no secret in the last few months that he still is considering all options.
"That's where I'm taking my visits," Smallwood said. "That's basically it. I'm weighing all my options. I'm still committed."
Many other programs have offered Smallwood, rated as the No. 23 defensive tackle in the 2014 class by Rivals.com, but the Fresno Central East standout has been especially drawn to those five programs.
He didn't go into great depth when discussing why but Smallwood will take his official visits and then get a better feel for each program.
"Arizona State I like their defensive scheme," Smallwood said. "Alabama, who wouldn't be interested in Alabama? Miami is another school I've been looking at. UCLA is another school I've been looking at and USC I've been committed there."
A date for wrapping up his recruitment is not known. He has been committed since late February, right after USC's junior day but since he still hasn't taken visits and gotten a feel for other places, Smallwood does not have any time set for making his final choice.
"I can't tell right now," he said.
