THE LATEST: De’Gabriel Floyd remains happily committed to USC but this whole time the 2019 four-star linebacker has made it no secret he will keep listening to other programs.
Michigan has started initial contact with the Santa Clarita (Calif.) Golden Valley recruit who played his sophomore season at Los Angeles Hawkins and other schools could get involved soon. But Floyd has shown no indication he's seriously rethinking his USC pledge.
That’s especially important since his former teammates, Joseph Lewis and Greg Johnson at Hawkins, both signed with the Trojans.
Floyd, who looked good at the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge presented by adidas this summer, said he’s planning to visit USC and UCLA soon.
IN HIS WORDS: “Michigan just sent me something on Twitter but that's pretty much it. Nothing serious right now. There are a few I would like to hear more from and Michigan is one, but other schools I'd like to hear from would be Georgia and Texas A&M. I would look into Alabama and Ohio State if they offered.”
RIVALS’ REACTION: There have been some whispers that Floyd is closely watching how many linebackers USC takes in this recruiting class.
So far, the Trojans have taken commitments from four in this class led by five-star Palaie Gaoteote.
If Floyd doesn’t feel like USC is the spot, then UCLA could make a lot of sense. He has been in a lot more contact with the coaching staff recently and linebackers coach Scott White is aggressively pursuing the 2019 four-star.
Many other programs could get involved through this season and Floyd, while remaining committed to USC, seems open enough to consider many other options in the Pac-12 and nationally.
