Urquidez returns to Texas

J.P. Urquidez is back in Texas.
The Rivals250 offensive tackle spent the fall at Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha after moving from Copperas Cove. The experience went well, but he is definitely glad to be back in Central Texas.

"If feels great to be back," Urquidez said. "I'm happy to be back in Cove. All of my friends are happy to see me. I'm just working out with the team in the morning and getting better every day. It's been a fun time."
Urquidez has also been busy on the recruiting trail. He has already taken a couple of college visits since his return with his first begin a visit to Baylor.
"Baylor's Junior Day was great," Urquidez said. "They're starting to bring in a lot of talent now and that's good. You want to play with the best if you want to win. I think the best part was my dad got to see Baylor more. I've been there a few times and he's only been there once or twice. It was good that my dad got to be there and it really helped him see what I saw at Baylor. It was great. I got to strengthen my relationship with coach Briles and coach Clements and coach Kendal Briles the offensive coordinator. I feel really comfortable out there."
His most recent trip was to Oklahoma for the Sooners' Junior Day.
"Really the biggest thing that caught my attention was the offensive coordinator from ECU," Urquidez said. "There was just something about him. As soon as I got there he was right there to meet me. He was real excited. He talked to my mom and my dad, and he was pretty much around us the whole day. Everywhere we went we were talking and tallking about the offense and what the new recruits are going to bring in and how OU is about to blow up as far as winning. They have a great tradition. They have won in the past, they're winning right now, and they're going to win in the future no matter what. I think that's definitely the big thing."
Next up is a trip to Texas for the Longhorns' Junior Day on February 28, and the Longhorns are one of his top three choices.
"The leader right now is tough to name," Urquidez said. "I have another visit which is to Texas which will probably help me decide who will be my leader because I'll have seen my top three. I think it's pretty obvious to everybody my top three are Baylor, Oklahoma, and Texas. Those are just the three programs I could see myself at and my whole family could come watch me play. No leaders right now. All three schools are neck and neck. It's really where I see myself and where I'll be able to see myself living after football and working after football and really where I see myself in the future."
Georgia and LSU are still in the mix as well.
His most recent offer arrived from UCLA, and the Bruins also have his attention.
"I haven't learned too much about UCLA," Urquidez said. "I know they're a dominant program. I know they're going to have winning seasons and are going to be ranked in the top of the polls every year. I think its cool to be out there in California. I've heard nothing but good things about UCLA as far as the campus and the people and the weather and everything. I definitely want to get out there before I sign anything. I want to see what they have to offer."
Urquidez would like to visit UCLA in the spring or the summer, and he also plans to make a commitment around mid-March.
"It's going to be tough to get to UCLA but I'm thinking about committing in the March-area, here pretty soon," Urquidez said. "My commit will probably happen pretty soon here. I want to go ahead and knock it out so I can enjoy the last year of high school and focus on my season. Once that happens I'll be pretty solid."
Urquidez is currently ranked No. 135 in the Rivals250.
