Urquidez Decides

J.P. Urquidez has had a good idea about where he has wanted to go. He has narrowed his list down to just a few options for the past few months. Monday morning he was ready to leave it at one, and announce where he would spend his college days.

With hats representing Baylor, Oklahoma, Texas, and Miami on the table, Urquidez began his announcement.
"I just want to say thank you to all of my coaches here. Y'all have been with me this whole time with all my support and all my brothers out there who have all been working with me. I couldn't have done this without any of y'all and my family who is here to support me," Urquidez said. "So I'll be taking my talents to Baylor University."
Urquidez had several reasons for choosing the Baylor Bears.
"Just really it's the team that's hot right now," Urquidez said. "I think with the recruiting class we're going to get we're going to win a national title. I have a great relationship with the coaches. I have a great relationship with the players who are already there. I'm talking with the recruits - Kameron Martin, Zach Smith, Patrick Hudson. We're building a dynasty right now. We're going to go win some championships and bring some rings home."
Before making his announcement he did reveal he had a really good idea about where he would go for about three months, but he had some good reasons why he made the decision to wait until Monday to make his commitment.
"I've known for quite a while," Urquidez said. "I wanted to take all of my visits though and make sure nobody really took it away from me. But I have known for awhile who I wanted to go with, and finally decided to pull the trigger."
One school in his final five was UCLA. The Bruins were the only one in his top five without a hat on the table, and the only program in his top five he was unable to visit. There was talk before his commitment that he could take an unofficial after his announcement but he put that talk to rest. [rl]
"I'm done. That's it. No more visits. This is it. I'm going to Baylor," Urquidez said. "A little bit late there and it's a little hard to get out there."
Urquidez is the seventh 2016 prospect to commit to Baylor and gives the Bears four 2016 Rivals250 prospects. He joins Rivals100 offensive guard Patrick Hudson in Baylor's 2016 offensive line class, and he is looking forward to getting to work.
"Getting with the coaches, getting with coach Clements, getting in the strength and conditioning program, and just being a better player," Urquidez said.
Urquidez is currently ranked No. 135 in the current Rivals250 and No. 13 among the nation's 2016 offensive tackles. He played his sophomore season at Copperas Cove (Texas) and transferred to Hyattsville (Md.) DeMatha for his junior season. He will play his senior year at Copperas Cove.
