Updated states have SEC, ACC flavor

The updated state player rankings for Wednesday have a definite SEC-ACC flavor to them. With the updated Alabama Top 30, Mississippi Top 30 and Virginia Top 50, the Atlantic East and the Southeast are well represented by Rivals.com. And leading the way with the representation is the top player in Virginia, cornerback Phillip Brown.
Brown remained the state’s top player, but there were a few slight changes throughout the Virginia list.

One of the players that moved up was defensive back Larry Williams of Highland Springs, Va. The West Virginia pledge is at the No. 19 spot.
Also moving up was fullback Ervin Battle-Baldwin of Richmond (Va.) Huguenot. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound Battle moved into the No. 21 spot.
Believe it or not, the Mississippi Top 30 list remained intact for this update period. The Magnolia State’s top player is still safety Quinton Culberson of Jackson Provine.
The Alabama state ranking expanded from a top 25 to a top 30 with the addition of five new players to the rankings.
At the top of the list, receiver Jayson Swain moved to the No. 2 spot ahead of quarterback JaMarcus Russell and athlete Tim Castille.
One of the new additions to the rankings was Opelika, Ala., defensive back Montavian Collier. Collier, who is 6-foot-2 and 218 pounds moved into the No. 16 spot in the rankings and received a third star after previous being ranked as a two-star player.
After playing only basketball his sophomore and junior seasons, the athletic Collier has returned to the football field this fall and is averaging about eight tackles per game as a cornerback.
He has three interceptions through eight games. As a junior, he averaged 15 points, nine rebounds and four steals per game for the basketball team.
