Upcoming games could play big factor with 2019 DL DeMarvin Leal

CONVERSE, Tex. -- 2019 defensive line prospect DeMarvin Leal is a major disruptor along the defensive line for a very exciting Converse-Judson team that squeaked out a win against 6A state finalist Cibolo-Steele last Friday.

For all of the havoc he creates at multiple positions, he’s not quite so boisterous when it comes to speaking on his recruitment.

“It’s a lot of teams,” he said, and chose not to single out which of his ten offered programs have been contacting him most. “I’m just going to have to keep that a secret.”

He might not have wanted to go into much detail about the teams most present with him at the moment, but he did say that he was planning on attending a few games this season, starting with this weekend when Alabama visits Texas A&M. Beyond that, he said that on October 21, he’ll be in Austin when Oklahoma State visits Texas.

“Both of those games are going to be big games for all of those teams,” he said. “So it will be nice to see how they do under pressure.”

Leal is understandably interested in getting a closer look at both teams’ defensive units, but the Aggies and Longhorns have the best chance to make some early headway with him this month.

“Their defense works really hard - they get after it,” he said of Texas. “It’s nice to see how hard they’re working with a new coaching staff.

“(A&M’s) defense is pretty good too. They’ve got some good technique and are always getting after the ball.”

Leal wants to play coy keep the major details hush-hush for the moment. He’ll get to see four of the teams in person that have been recruiting him, so by the end of the month, he might have some more insightful opinions about them. Even though he primarily lines up at defensive end, he’s got the frame to continue sizing up and possibly play inside as well. After the litany of pass-rush moves he dropped all night against Steele, he’s showed he has as good as agility for a guy his size as he does strength and explosiveness.
