UNLV lands SoCal quarterback

UNLV had a big recruiting weekend this past week and scored a very nice prospect in Burbank (Calif.) quarterback Mike McDonald.
McDonald, 6-2, 205 pounds is a three year starter and earned all-area honors for the second straight season this past year. The signal caller completed 180-257 (70%) passes for just over 2,500 yards and 25 touchdowns with just six picks.

McDonald visited Boise State two weeks ago but said the offense new Rebel Coach Mike Sanford will be implementing was too much to pass up.
"I thought Utah had the best offense in the country last year and coach Sanford was the offensive coordinator there," McDonald said. "It's just a great fit for me and is similar to what we do on my high school team. We like to spread teams out and that's the offense UNLV will now be running.
"I like Boise State too, I had a good time there and it was actually a little different than what I thought it would be. I was expecting kind of a slow, small town but it's a cool place and there is a lot of stuff to do there. Boise was supposed to come in this week for an in-home visit but I already called them and told them I committed to UNLV. Like I said, the chance to play in that offense was too much to pass up."
McDonald said he was also hearing from and had visits set with Utah and N. Arizona but has canceled both and is a firm commitment.
