UNLV lands SoCal corner

Mission Viejo (Calif.) will likely have as many as seven or even eight players sign with a Div I college come February. The most recent player to commit was defensive back J.R. Griffin who is headed to UNLV.
Griffin, 5-9, 160 pounds is a talented cover corner with excellent bloodlines. He's the nephew of former Ohio State Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin.

"He tripped to UNLV this past weekend and really liked it there," Diablo coach Bob Johnson said. "I think he'll do very well there. J.R. can really cover and is a physical player. He runs well and loves to compete. He was a joy for me to coach and I'm excited that he'll be able to play for Mike (Sanford)."
Griffin was also getting looks from Utah State and Wyoming but the visit to Las Vegas was the first one he took. He earned 2nd team all-league honors this past season, his first year starting for the Diablos.
