Uncommitted spotlight: Three top Lone Star State prospects

Many of the high-profile prospects in Texas have announced their commitments but that doesn’t mean there aren’t still players that teams are competing for late in the game. Here is a look at a trio of recruits that are getting a lot of attention as the clock ticks down to National Signing Day.

MORE PREDICTIONS: Midwest | Southeast | Mid-Atlantic | West

The Latest: Calloway took his final visit to Arkansas last weekend. He opened up his recruitment with an official visit to Nebraska after things started to sour with his original commitment to Iowa; since then he has visited Ole Miss and Texas, which have since leapfrogged the Huskers and join the Razorbacks in his final three teams. Although he had positive things to say about his visit to Oxford, the feeling heading into this weekend is that he’s less concerned with getting familiar with Ole Miss’ new defensive coordinator, Wesley McGriff, than he is simply choosing between more known commodities in Arkansas or Texas.

Prediction: Arkansas

This is a tough one because the Razorbacks already have six defensive backs committed in this class, but Rivals projects three of them as safeties and Calloway would be the clear top talent among the corners in that group. Texas’ recent plays for Kary Vincent and Amik Robertson suggest that the staff might not have a strong feeling that the Longhorns are going to add Calloway.

The Latest: Sanogo decommitted from Houston after Tom Herman departed for Texas and shortly after came up with an Ole Miss offer. This week, UCLA got in the mix, and now it’s up in the air if Sanogo will even announce on National Signing Day. He took an official visit to Oxford last weekend and at the time of his offer was proud to have landed one from an SEC team. While he had a strong relationship with Major Applewhite, it seems his future is not likely to be with Houston.

Prediction: Ole Miss

It’s possible he’s already committed to Ole Miss and is just waiting until National Signing Day to make his intentions known. If he doesn’t announce by next Wednesday, then UCLA may still have an opportunity to slide him into its class.

The Latest: Barnes is a relative late bloomer in terms of his notoriety among programs both in his home state of Texas and outside it. It has been tough to determine how serious he’s been about some of the offers he’s received. This weekend he was originally scheduled to take an official visit to Minnesota, but he's since chosen to change that to Kansas State. However, he’s put off previous trips to Kansas State when the Wildcats' staff has tried to get him on campus, so it’s still questionable how serious of a contender it is in his recruitment. He’s taken official visits to Texas-San Antonio and Colorado, but Baylor is also a serious contender to add him to its rapidly growing class.

Prediction: Baylor

The Bears seem like the pick here, as he had been counting on an offer from Baylor for a long time and the momentum Matt Rhule has right now is undeniable. But don't count out UTSA, which has been significantly involved in his recruitment since the start.
