UNC, UGA, USC in ATHs top three

Lake City (Fla.) Columbia athlete George Timmons is one of those players talented enough to line up at nearly half the positions on the field.
And that versatility is helping him draw some major interest and scholarship offers from all over the eastern half of the country.

“Iowa State and Michigan State have offered for sure, and most all of the other ones I’ve talked to sounded like they were going to offer,” Timmons said.
Such as?
“There’s a bunch,” he said. “North Carolina, Louisville, Southern Miss, Georgia, Alabama, LSU, Clemson, Miami, Kentucky, South Carolina and Middle Tennessee State.
“Right now, my top three are North Carolina, Georgia and South Carolina. I like those schools, their football programs, and the fact that they’re close to family. I’m not really ready to pick a favorite from them. I’ve got to take some visits first.”
Timmons (6-2, 180, 4.4) said he’s looking for a school that “can push me to be my best, both on and off the field.”
He’s being recruited as a wide receiver by most of the schools on his list, but some have also projected him as a corner or safety.
As a junior, he rushed for 680 yards and nine touchdowns on only 64 carries. He also caught 18 passes for 207 yards and four scores.
Academically, he’s got some work to do in order to get eligible. His GPA is around 2.3 and he’s scored a 16 on the ACT. He’ll take the test again next month.
“I’ve been really focused on taking care of that first and not really focusing on all the schools yet,” he said.
