UNC reels in top DB

The North Carolina football program is off to another fast start this recruiting year, and they just landed one of their top in-state targets.
"I committed to coach Bunting yesterday," said 6-foot-2, 180-pound defensive back Martel Thatch from Greensboro (N.C.) Dudley. "UNC was always my favorite, but I wanted my parents to meet coach Bunting and everyone in person. We took a trip there Saturday morning and that was it."

Thatch had narrowed things down to UNC and Virginia, but it was never as close as it seemed.
"It was always the Heels," he said. "I love the campus, coaches, uniforms -- everything about it. I feel very comfortable there."
Thatch will play safety for the Tar Heels. As a junior, he made 90 tackles and intercepted nine passes on defense. His teammates, running back Jamal Edwards and defensive tackle DeMario Pressley, will likely decide later in the process.
"I'll be working on them to go to UNC," he said. "I think they'll decide after the season."
Both Edwards and Pressley are members of the Rivals100 Team.
