Rivals100 defensive end Desmond Evans' recruitment has lasted longer than most thought it would but it ended the same way everybody expected. The Sanford (N.C.) Lee County star has announced his commitment to North Carolina.

IN HIS OWN WORDS...

"I just feel like North Carolina was the best fit for me and my family," Evans said. "It's close to home so my parents can come see me whenever they want to.

"I feel really comfortable with coach Brewster, Mack Brown, and really the whole coaching staff," he said. "We talk about everything that's going on. We have a good time and the vibe was right.

"I've been talking to Parks (Cochrane), that went to IMG Academy," said Evans. "Other than (my teammate & UNC commit Jayden Chalmers), I'm pretty close to Josh (Downs), from Georgia."

RIVALS' REACTION...

North Carolina already has an impressive haul of defensive line talent in this recruiting class, led by in-state prospects Myles Murphy and Kedrick Bingley-Jones, but the addition of Evans pushes this group into the elite level. Evans brings outstanding edge speed to this defensive line and the development we've seen in his hand techniques make him a potential instant-impact recruit. He will need to get stronger and enforce his will a bit more but that is something the coaching staff will be able to work on with him.
