UNC, Auburn, Miami on top for 3-star Florida OL Ed Montilus

The Latest: Recruiting is still heating up for three-star Florida offensive lineman Ed Montilus, with new schools entering the mix on a regular basis. But at Sunday’s Orlando stop of the Rivals 3-Stripe Camp series presented by adidas, Montilus said three schools are starting to emerge as his early favorites. Rivals.com caught up with Montilus to talk about his favorites as well as his decision timeline.

In His Words: “Right now I’m being recruited a lot by North Carolina, they’re sticking out right now and I’m liking Auburn and Miami right now, too.”

North Carolina: “They’re telling me they really want me to come up there. They want both me and William Barnes. Up there it’s different from other schools, they’re like family not just a team. I went to their junior day last week. It was fun. They made it entertaining, with announcers and stuff like that. It wasn’t just like the usual tour. We got to go to the Duke-North Carolina basketball game and Michael Jordan was there. It was one of the best times of my life, really. It was very cool.”

Auburn: “I’ve been there for a game when they played Alabama St. back in the fall. They treated me great and the town was beautiful. I’ve been talking to Coach Hand, the offensive line coach and he’s one of my favorite coaches right now. He’s not overly aggressive as a recruiter, he’s calm and he just tells me why they want me but he’s not putting a lot of pressure on me.”

Miami: “I’ve been down there a few times. I like the campus, I like the coaches, I like the way they work. I really enjoyed being down there on campus. It’s close to the beach, there’s a lot of people that say in town and on campus even when school is out. It’s an in-state school and that’s something I’m thinking of.”

On a decision: “I’ll probably start thinking about my top schools over this summer and then narrow down for my official visits and take it from there.”

Rivals Reaction: North Carolina made both Montilus and Barnes early priorities and it seems as if that work is paying dividends, especially since both recently traveled to Chapel Hill. The question is can schools closer to home like the Tigers and Canes close the gap on the Heels in coming months?
