Tennessee thought they had another South Florida gem committed when Deerfield Beach athlete Brandon Powell chose the Vols back in June.

However, the opportunity to play running back close to home convinced him to switch to the Hurricanes earlier this month. The chance to line up in the backfield for the Hurricanes was simply too good to pass up.
"They were recruiting me as a running back and it's right in my hometown, so my whole family can come see the games and everything," Powell said. "Plus I wanted to play running back in college."
The Vols were recruiting him as a slot receiver and were up front with Powell from the beginning, but he felt the best position for him is at tailback.
Powell is looking forward to going to UM and playing with sophomore sensation Duke Johnson.
"I plan to learn a lot from him (Johnson)," Powell said. "He came in as a freshman and played the way he did. He blew up. I plan on learning a few things from Duke, watching him in practice, and going against him to try and get better."
"I was always a Florida State fan, so I didn't like Miami. But once the recruiting process came around you understood what is the best offer for you and that's why I chose Miami."
The three-star athlete is planning to take all five official visits and he explained that to the Miami coaches.
Some of the schools still showing interest in Powell are Nebraska, Wake Forest, and West Virginia. He hasn't set any dates yet, but he will need to find time in his busy schedule. He is graduating in December, so his weekends are limited.
At this time, Powell says he is 100% committed to Miami.
