UM commit looks to the summer

Whitehall, Mich., defensive end Ryan VanBergen, who committed to Michigan in early April, is looking forward to getting some early work with the Wolverines' coaching staff.
"I went to Michigan's spring game," VanBergen said. "I'm going to the Michigan camp. I'll have the chance to see coach Stripling again.

"I'll have the chance to have more interaction with him. It's the most football related interaction I can have with him till I start school there."
VanBergen plays both defensive end and tight end.
"Coach Stripling said they would look at me at tight end, but right now I can expect to play defensive end," VanBergen said. "Coach Stripling said he isn't going to give me up to the offense."
Though a few schools are staying in contact with VanBergen, pretty much everyone has respected his commitment to the Wolverines.
"The only coach that has been out to my school is coach Stripling," Van Bergen said. "Before I committed to Michigan, Purdue, Michigan State, Northwestern, and Indiana said they were going to come out. I still get a little bit of mail, but not like before I committed."
The 6-foot-5 and 250-pound VanBergen was an all-conference and all-area selection on both sides of the ball during his junior season. He also is an outstanding student as his 3.6 GPA and 27 on the ACT suggests.
