Offer No. 1 came in not too long ago for Baltimore (Md.) Gilman School 2014 defensive tackle Chibuzo Ukandu. The 6-foot-3, 250-pounder pulled a scholarship from a team that is making a jump to FBS and has lots of other schools interested.
"I got offered by Charlotte just over a week ago on Friday," he said. "It felt really good to get that first offer and finally be able to claim I have an offer. I'm hoping for more."
Ukandu confirmed he didn't know a lot about the 49ers at this time.
In the meantime, plenty of other teams including Miami, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, Rutgers, Boston College, Tulane and Ohio State are looking.
"They just all want me to come down to their camps and take visits during the summer. I'll probably go to a couple camps. I have one planned so far to Virginia."
According to Ukandu, two schools stick out.
"I like the schools that are contacting me most, Virginia and Maryland," he said. "Virginia is because our linebacker, Micah Kiser is committed there and Darius Jennings is there. I've heard good things.
"Maryland is the in-state school and I've been there three times. I went to their spring game and had fun there."
It's not surprising Ukandu is getting quite a bit of interest since he's started for Gilman since his freshman year and posted three sacks as a sophomore last season.
"I did well," he said. "I'm think I'm a third team preseason all-state pick for this coming year.
"Last season, I helped our team win the championship. I think my quickness and ability to be powerful is what makes me stand out most."
