UGA, Ohio State among those battling for 2018 Rivals100 DE Justin Mascoll

The Latest: Despite having offers from most of the top programs in America, Class of 2018 Rivals100 defensive end Justin Mascoll prefers to keep a low profile. He rarely attends offseason camps and doesn't keep the world apprised of his every move via social media. But now that schools are able to reach out to Mascoll and the rest of the Class of 2018 via Twitter, his recruitment is heating up like never before. So which programs are making the best effort to reach him? Rivals.com caught up with Mascoll to get the latest.

In His Words: "Really I would have to say my recruiting has been going good. I’ve really been trying to stay focused on my team and I’m not really worried about recruiting right now. I still have a ways to go and a lot to grow and learn. Really if I were to say the school that is showing me the most attention right now it would be between Georgia and Ohio State."

Ohio State: "They’ve just been telling me they really need me and they want guys who really love the game and I’m one of those guys. They’ve just been telling me a lot of good things. I’ve talked to a lot of the coaches. I’ve talked to Urban Meyer, coach Johnson and we’ve had some good talks. It’s not really a big deal to me to be able to talk to the head coach, I’ve gotten to talk to a lot of them and I’m just waiting for that coach to really just be honest with me and to keep it on 100 and tell me what I need to hear not just what I want to hear. Because I’ve been hearing the same thing over and over again and I just want to get that real feel."

Georgia: "Georgia is just like home, it is home. I just really like it there. I like the coaches and they’re really honest with me. Since the new coaching staff has come in I’ve noticed a lot more energy and a lot more excitement towards the season. I really experienced that during the 93K day and the really big spring game. I really like the energy there from the fans. They really love the players there."

Rivals Reaction: Mascoll has listed Georgia as his "leader" for quite a while and it appears that the Bulldogs are still in prime position to land him. But Ohio State has been trying to pull a defensive player of Mascoll's caliber out of Georgia for several cycles and are sure to put up quite a bit of a fight. Mascoll is likely to take in several games at Georgia this fall and also plans to make trips to Clemson and Florida State. However, if he shows up in Columbus to take in a game it will show that his interest in the Buckeyes is legitimate.
