UCLA still looks good for McGrew

Sean McGrew had two touchdown runs in the second half as Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco was seriously tested through nearly three quarters this past weekend by Portland (Ore.) Central Catholic.
When things got tough, McGrew got going and led Bosco to a 42-14 win.

There is no question that McGrew is undersized at 5-foot-7 and 174 pounds but he's a player, a legitimate Division I prospect and he showed it once again this past weekend.
"I like the challenge," McGrew said.
"Central Catholic is a great team and we knew they'd be very physical. Second half we just had to come out and establish that we were the more physical team in this game. I like the responsibility that I need the ball. Every time I touch it I have to make something happen and I like that, it fuels me for every game."
So far, the 2016 four-star prospect has been offered by BYU, Cal, Colorado, Colorado State, UCLA, Washington and Washington State.
The Bruins still look best in his recruitment. He loves the UCLA coaching staff and that five-star quarterback and teammate Josh Rosen is headed there are definitely major factors in McGrew's thinking as well.
"Coach (Jim) Mora and Coach (Kennedy) Polamalu are great guys," McGrew said. "We have a great bond already. There's no reason for me to leave Southern California but it's also a great education and at the end of the day I'm going to get the best education I can.
"(Rosen going to UCLA) is a big factor. That would be awesome if we go to college together. We read each other's minds and we know the offense the best right now. We help each other out. I've got his back on blitzes or if blitzes come I'll run the hot route and he'll throw it to me. He knows I'll be there."
Cal and Washington are two other programs that intrigue McGrew, rated as the third-best all-purpose back in the 2016 class by Rivals.com.
The four-star is excited about Cal's strong start and he plans to take an unofficial visit there later this season.
"Cal is starting off to have a great season this year and it's a great education," McGrew said.
"I know Tre Watson is up there and Khalfani (Muhammad). Those are two guys I kind of looked up to and they're getting playing time as freshmen. Coach (Sonny) Dykes seems like a great guy and I'm going up this season to watch a game but it's the education mostly."
