LONG BEACH, Calif. – Olaijah Griffin had an excellent showing in Mission Viejo’s win over Long Beach Poly Friday night.

The four-star cornerback did a nice job of locking up five-star receiver Jalen Hall for most of the night, showcasing his speed, athleticism and unusually long arms to knock down passes and make plays.

It was a big win. And afterward, Griffin was spent.

“It means everything,” Griffin said of Mission Viejo’s win. “We fought hard. Blood, sweat and tears, that’s all I have to say. I worked hard and we worked hard as a team.

“It was a pretty good matchup. I felt l held it down and did work.”

As for Griffin’s recruitment, the four-star committed to UCLA this summer and said everything is still great with the Bruins. He has the ability to make an immediate impact in Westwood.

The son of rapper Warren G, Griffin is planning to take all his official visits but that by no means is a sign that he’s rethinking his UCLA pledge.

“I love everything about them,” Griffin said of the Bruins. “I’m really close with the coaches and we have a good relationship.”

USC was considered a frontrunner for Griffin when he picked UCLA and many other programs are involved including Cal, Michigan, Nebraska, Oregon, TCU, Texas A&M, Washington and others.

Griffin said he has no idea where he wants to take trips but he isn’t opposed to getting out and seeing some other schools. Early in his senior season, Griffin said he hasn't thought much about where he'd like to visit though.

“I might be taking my five officials,” Griffin said. “I’m not sure where. I haven’t really been thinking about it. I’m just focusing on football right now.”
