UCLA lands huge get

There is no doubt that defensive end Datone Jones (6-4, 240, 4.8) from Compton, Calif., is one of the most sought after players on the west coast. The fact he committed today has broken the hearts of many schools that had designs on the talented defensive end playing for their respective schools.
"Yes, Datone committed today," Compton head coach Calvin Bryant said. "He went on an unofficial visit to UCLA today and met with the coaches and he felt UCLA is a good fit and good place for him to play.

"Datone liked the makeup of the coaching staff and what Coach DeWayne Walker brings to the table," Bryant said. "He also likes what he can bring to the table for UCLA defensively and how he can be utilized.
"Datone is excited about his commitment to UCLA and it is good because he is an early offer guy and it is good for our younger players to see one of our early offer guys commit to play close to home."
Jones was a first-team all-league selection the very tough Moore League after racking up 60 tackles and four sacks. He also earned his team's most improved player award as a junior.
Jones plays both ways for Compton but projects as a defensive player on the D-I level. He also runs the 200-m and 400-m in track.
UCLA won the services of Jones over offers from the likes of USC, Arizona, Arizona State, Oregon, Colorado, Ole Miss and Fresno State.
Big time get for UCLA.
