UCLA lands four-star DE

One of UCLA’s major recruits this season four-star defensive end Brigham Harwell (6-2, 245, 4.7) from Hacienda Heights (Calif.) Los Altos has reportedly committed to UCLA.
Harwell wasn’t home when we called but we have it from three very good sources that it is a done deal. It isn’t a huge surprise since this announcement was expected three weeks ago when Harwell was first scheduled to take his unofficial visit but had to cancel because of a passing league game.

Harwell will now join his good friend and teammate, fellow Bruin commit Daniel Drayton (5-10, 175, 4.4) on the UCLA ledger of commits.
Harwell is a pass rushing phenom who led the state in sacks as a junior after racking up 25 sacks. He also had 22 sacks as a sophomore. The thing that makes Harwell’s sack count so impressive is the fact of all the attention he attracts on every play.
The opposition sends at least two and many times three players Harwell’s way on every down.
Harwell’s main goal his senior season is to break USC standout defensive lineman Shaun Cody’s Los Altos school record of 33 sacks.
There is no better way of stopping a lethal passing game then a ferocious pass rush. Not only do you get negative yardage with a sack but you get picks because of rushed throws and you get the signal caller out of his rhythm.
That is why players with Harwell’s special talent are so desirable.
As a junior, Harwell was selected CIF Division VI Defensive Player of the Year and Area Lineman of the Year. He was also a first-team all-state underclassman and first-team all-CIF after he racked 92 tackles, caused six fumbles, recovered three fumbles and even picked off a pass in addition to his leading the Golden State in sacks with 25.
More on this development later.
