UCLA impresses 2017 Rivals100 QB Mills

Class of 2017 Rivals100 quarterback Davis Mills has spent the summer auditioning for coaches all over the country. So when UCLA invited him out for a visit to tour campus earlier this week with no camping or throwing involved, Mills made it a priority to get to California.
"It was awesome," Mills said "I got in a day early to sightsee all around L.A. and Monday morning I had the visit. The campus was beautiful. Their football facilities were even better, and will continue to get better with the new facility they are building. The coaches are doing everything to make you the best player possible. So overall, it was a great trip."

Mills is a prototypical pro-style passer and said the UCLA coaches think his skills would translate well into the Bruins offense.
"They told me I was a perfect fit," Mills said. "They play in a very efficient offense. A lot of NFL teams are running these kinds of offenses now."
Getting to see campus in person along with his father also allowed Mills to get a sense for just how far UCLA would be from his Atlanta-area home.
"I know it's a little more of a concern with my parents but they are also fine with hopping on a plane to come see me," Mills said. "UCLA seems like a great fit."
The Bruins visit isn't the only Pac-12 program Mills has seen this summer, with Stanford and Oregon also getting trips. While the Bruins have offered and the Cardinal and Ducks are still evaluating, Mills said he enjoyed those trips as well.
"The coolest facilities of all the schools I've seen is definitely Oregon," he said. "It's a whole other level. In their media room the walls have football leather on them -- it's insane."
While the facilities are a nice perk, Mills said it's not something that will make or break his decision.
"It's a bonus," he said. "You already know they're serious with how competitive and successful they've been. That's just another thing to keep building a better team."
The last school to offer Mills on the spot at a camp was N.C. State and he called the trip to see the Wolfpack in person a memorable experience.
"It was nice," Mills said. "I didn't really expect much going in because I didn't know much about them but it really blew me away."
The chance to talk with N.C. State head coach Dave Doeren also gave Mills confidence bout the future of the program.
"The different places that staff has been they have been really successful and they're just trying to bring that success to N.C. State," Mills said. "And it looks like it's going in the right direction."
Later this week Mills is planning on visiting Tennessee, another trip that could result in an offer. He will also visit South Carolina before the end of the month.
"Tennessee came and saw me during the spring now they just want me to come and throw for Butch Jones in person," Mills said. "I have a teammate who went there last year. He was talking to me about joining him but we'll have to see how it goes. I just want to get an experience, get some good coaching and try to get better."
Even though some 2017 quarterbacks are already coming off the market, Mills said he's in no rush to make a decision.
"I've been trying to talk to all the schools I'm still interested in," he said. "I have 18 offers now so I'm not going to narrow anything down. I'm just trying to find my best fit and what's good for me and my family."
