UCF, UVA on top for three-star lineman

LAKELAND, Fla. -- The way Donovan Jennings speaks, it’s clear that he thinks there’s more in store for his recruitment. The three-star offensive lineman has a healthy offer sheet and a few programs that stand out from the pack.

He also often uses the phrase “so far” and the word “eventually”. He says he’s not planning to make a verbal commitment until well into his senior season. This is not the portrait of a prospect in a rush. He names his current frontrunners while indicating they could change at any moment.

“So far, I like USF and Virginia,” Jennings said. “I haven’t visited Virginia yet, but I will this summer.”

He has, however, visited UCF. In fact, the trip is still fresh in his mind.

“I went to UCF on Monday,” Jennings said. “The coaches were so nice and welcoming to my dad. That really meant a lot I liked it there.”

When it comes to Virginia, things rest on long-distance interactions. Until he visits, the Cavaliers coaching staff will have to keep his interest piqued with words. And, so far, it seems to be doing a great job of that.

“They just tell me how much they like me,” Jennings said of the Virginia coaches. “They want me to come up there a lot. They want me to work out at camp and then set up an official visit. I like the overall coaching and the overall experience I can get there.”

Of course there are other schools in play. Jennings has a long list of scholarship offers, but it’s the programs that are yet to make things official that may serve as the biggest threats to supplant UVA and UCF.

Who could be next to offer Jennings? The massive lineman has his guesses.

“Oregon is a big one,” he said. “Then Illinois and Purdue. They’re talking to me. We’ll see.”
