UCF pledge still looking around

Travis Ferrer, Tallahassee Lincoln’s powerful tight end, committed to Central Florida in August, but he may now be leaving some room for a change of heart.
“I committed to UCF, and I tell schools that have been calling me that I’m still pretty committed,” he said. “But I listen to Kentucky, Louisville, Eastern Michigan and FIU. FIU has offered me. I don’t want to close all doors yet.”

Official visits could clear up some of vagaries in his school choices, and while he has only scheduled a stop at UCF, others could be in the works.
“I’m visiting UCF on December 3,” Ferrer said. “Eastern Michigan wants me to visit, and I might go to Louisville or Kentucky, too. Coach Petrino [Louisville head coach Bobby] calls me; he’s the only one who I really talk to a lot. I really like him. Coach Gray [Kentucky defensive line coach Michael] called three days ago after they got a highlight tape, and I like the academic possibilities, with the hospital they have there, too. I’m really interested in medicine.”
Ferrer, a strong tight end who prides himself on completing his assignments, has added time on defense this year. He says that blocking hard always gives him a feeling of accomplishment. His perfectionism is something that might benefit some of his teammates, who have been plagued by mental errors that have cost the team a few early games.
“We’re doing pretty good,” Ferrer said. “We lost to some great teams because of some little mistakes and mental errors, but recently the defense has played a lot better. Personally, I really admire Jeremy Shockey because he’s a great athlete and he’s done a lot for the tight end position. He makes a lot of plays every game, and I like to try to do that.”
