UCF commit staying solid

Gainesville (Fla.) Bucholz quarterback Alex Thompson committed to Central Florida last month. Now, as he nears the end of his senior season, Thompson says that his pledge is as firm as it could possibly be.
“I committed to UCF, and that’s where I’m going to go,” Thompson said. “I was getting calls from Auburn, Southern Miss, Wake Forest and Army before I committed, and they were hinting at offers. They’ve backed off now that I committed.”

While there were a number of considerations behind Thompson’s final choice, but he said that Central Florida’s latest coach played a prominent role.
“Coach O’Leary was a major factor in my decision,” he said. “Coach O’Leary is a proved coach is a proven coach who can win games and turn teams around. That’s what he’s going to do with Central Florida. My wide receivers coach Mark Whittemore was a receiver there, and he told me good things and how much fun he had. I’m just ready to get down there and starting playing.”
With a 7-2 record heading into their final game, Thompson said that he and his teammates are now focusing on the playoffs.
“I’m just trying to get the job done now,” Thompson said. “We just want to win, and I don’t care what I have to do as long as we win. Everyone’s starting to come along as we get ready for the playoffs.”
